Plants need pruning for several reasons:
1. To let in light and air.
2. To remove dead, diseased or damaged wood (twigs, branches and limbs).
3. To accentuate a plant's best features (such as form, structure or texture).
4. To help a plant in a difficult (tight) space.
5. To rejuvenate old and neglected plants.
Cleaning out an overgrown plant stimulates new growth, helping restore a plant's original, natural form. Restoring a plant gives the garden a visual boost.
